The construction of the new V-Cableway in Grindelwald is making steady progress. We can also observe the progress of our office at Dorfstrasse 20 in Grindelwald.

The Project

The project is enormous and the structured and planned approach is already bearing fruit. The planning alone took six years and cost around CHF 15 million. When the waiver of appeal against the plan approval was submitted on 8 June 2019, the implementation could begin. Various sections of the new V-Cableway are now being built here in record time. The concrete work in the terminal building and the installation of the cable car technology in the GGM valley station are already being completed. At the BOB stop at the Grindelwald Terminal, work is already underway on the shell of the stair tower in the West Underpass and on further extending the stop for railway operations. The future multi-story car park will also be busy. Excavation work is in full swing and the concrete work for the first and second basements has already begun. As far as the status at the beginning of October 2019.

The Milestones

However, the most important milestones are still to come:

On 14 December 2019, the Grindelwald Terminal will be partially commissioned with the opening of the Männlichenbahn and the Grindelwald Terminal Rothenegg train station.

 

The entire Grindelwald Terminal and the extension of the Eiger Express mountain station are scheduled for completion in summer 2020.

December 12, 2020, will be a big day, as then the most important railways will be put into operation:

  • Total opening of Grindelwald Terminal with restaurant, shops, and ski depots
  • Commissioning of the multi-story car park at Grindelwald Terminal
  • Commissioning of the Eiger Express
  • Commissioning of the Eiger Express railway station with a direct connection to the Jungfrau Railway

Finally, the shuttle from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen will start at the end of 2020.
